HOUSING & SUPPORT SERVICES

We develop and operate supportive housing for youth and young adults, families, seniors, individuals with special needs, and other low-income households.

MCD currently provides support services on-site at 5 permanent supportive & affordable housing development sin South Los Angeles, which house people who have experienced homelessness, or are reintegrating into the community from institutions, such as youth involved with the child welfare system, residents who receive services from the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health; and those who are under the jurisdiction of the LA County Probation Department.

In 2011, MCD created the Support Services Department to better help young people ages 18-24 who are experiencing homelessness or housing instability obtain sage and stable housing.

Our Support Services department is focused on helping people build the independent living skills & economic self-sufficiency required to support a successful transition to adulthood.  Services are voluntary and include case management, independent living skills & economic self-sufficiency required to support a successful transition to adulthood.  Services are voluntary and include case management, independent living skills workshops and classes, money management, and access to other community-based resources such as mental health counseling,  job training, employment services childcare, legal services, health care, and education.

MCD also operates Ruth’s Place, a resource for homeless or disconnected youth and young adults.  Located on the ground floor of Broadway Apartments at 4775. S. Broadway, Ruth’s Place is a drop-in center provides showers, a lounge, a game room, laundry, and access to support services.

Young people who come to the center can use the community space to rest, take a shower, do laundry, or access the computer lab. A lounge, game room and kitchen are also available. Services offered at Ruth’s Place include housing assistance, case management, life skills workshops, mental health assessments, and referrals.

COORDINATED ENTRY SYSTEM for YOUTH

SERVING YOUTH EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS

MCD serves as the lead youth agency in Service Planning Area 6 (SPA6) of South LA in the countywide Coordinated Entry System (CES) which aims to effectively address the homeless epidemic in LA.  We are responsible for coordinating and strengthening collaboration among partners serving youth experiencing homelessness in SPA6. This includes access, initial assessment, regional case conferencing, housing navigation, and priority matching to housing resources that best fit the individual’s needs.

Ruth’s Place is a central access point in South LA where youth experiencing homelessness are connected to services an housing resources through the CES which offers a ‘no wrong door’ method to serving youth.  Our team works to provide them access, match & assist, and house the youth seeking services.
